NCAA regional finals are on at Altell, and Arkansas plays Indiana in Raleigh tonight. Today, Many Christians observe the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ today and there will be a community sunrise service at Riverfront Park Sunday morning.

Today is the day Governor Beebe decides on whether to call a special session to enact the increase in natural gas severance taxes he negotiated with industry representatives.

Little Rock interim superintendent Linda Watson has been offered a three-year contract by the Little Rock school board. The vote was, 4 to 3.

Residents in Little Rock’s ward one are trying to remove City Director Erma Fingers Hendris. This is the first attempted recall since 1957.

If you think the Arkansas River is high, give yourself a gold star. According to the Corps of Engineers, this is the highest since the floods of 1990.

Gov. Mike Beebe has declared 26 Arkansas counties, including Washington and Benton counties, as disaster areas due to damage caused by heavy rains and flooding The nationwide death toll is 13, and 2 Arkansans are missing.

The Arkansas Trucking Association, which represents FedEx Freight, J.B. Hunt, Wal-Mart, Tyson Foods and Arkansas Best, says it will petition the U.S. Congress to investigate record high diesel fuel prices that “threaten the cost-effective flow of goods in the United States and the general economy.”

The 2008 deer hunting season will open Oct. 1 for bows and Nov. 8 for modern guns under a proposal approved Thursday by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

Hot Springs’ historic downtown is about to get even more historic with the April 1 opening of The Gangster Museum of America.
