After a 13-month study and debate, Hendrix College’s board of trustees has decided to add football to the college’s athletic program. Football was discontinued at Hendrix after the 1960 season. Hendrix will play in Division III where there are no athletic scholarships.
No University of Arkansas athletic teams will lose scholarships next year according to Academic Progress Rate statistics released by the NCAA. UALR’s basketball team was docked almost one full scholarship and ASU’s basketball program got a warning.
A Little Rock school district employee has filed an racial discrimination lawsuit based on the 2005 reorganization. John Walker hopes to make it a class action on behalf of 100 effected individuals.
The Little Rock school board president Katherine Mitchell is on the mend after a two week visit to the hospital for pneumonia. She expects to be released this week, maybe today.
Judge Elizabeth Wise of Perryville has been admonished by the Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission for effectively banishing troublesome defendants from Perry County.
Arkansas State Police are investigating a racially inflammatory and apparently forged memorandum purported to be from Miller County Judge Roy John McNatt. Miller County Prosecutor Brent Haltom said the memo will be investigated by federal authorities as well, as it could be construed as voter fraud.
