For what it’s worth, Mike Huckabee is supposedly on the top of John McCain’s  V. P. short list. Huckabee also denies being in league with conservative anti-McCain Republicans. And he was at the Carrie Underwood concert Sunday night.

Wal Mart posted first-quarter profit that rose more than analysts estimated after it cut prices on groceries and pharmacy items to lure consumers strained by higher food expenses and $3.70-a-gallon gasoline.

Power company crews are scrambling to get the lights back on in Stutgart and a dozen school districts have gotten waivers of the minimum number of class days rule because of recent storms.

Opponents of a coal-fired power plant planned for Hempstead County have asked a federal judge to block all construction work at the site, accusing Southwestern Electric Power Co. of failing to obtain all necessary permits.

One state senator is suggesting a four day work week as one way to help state employees deal with rising gasoline prices.

Remember the major Toyota car assembly plant Tupelo, Mississippi won over Marion, Arkansas. It looks like Toyota will delay that construction project till the economy improves. 

The state board of education has released report cards for schools statewide. The report cards show that Arkansas students scored at a proficient level on standardized tests in higher percentages in 2007 than the previous year in 11 out of 15 testing categories.

A major announcement will take place on the steps of the Capitol at 10:30 this morning regarding the proposed Scholarship Lottery Amendment. The signatures (plus a comfortable cushion) must be ready.

A federal appeals panel told Arkansas prison officials to take another look at an order that has kept a man serving life without parole in isolation for 13 years. David Williams has been convicted of killing his father and another inmate.

Plans for the city-owned RV Park directly across the Arkansas River from the Clinton Library moved forward at last night’s city council meeting, but the owners of a local KOA campground say the city may run into problems without a business plan. Alderman John Parker says the city has 40 RV spaces in Burns Park that need repair.

Today’s Searcy Citizen reports Mary Johnson accepted the Harding University degree earned by her husband who died unexpectedly in March. Johnson,the mother of two, also received a check for $41,000 raised by Harding folks to pay off her student loans.
