An ozone action advisory is in effect today for Pulaski, Faulkner, Lonoke and Saline counties. A heat advisory continues for most of Arkansas until this evening.  The Forestry Commission is watching out for wildfires.

Sen. Mark Pryor says Iraq “is a very different situation” from when he last visited in October 2006, and the change is to the benefit of the Arkansas National Guard’s 39th Infantry Brigade that is on its second tour in the country.

Warren Stephens, CEO of Stephens Inc., has contributed $50,000 to the campaign backing the proposed lottery initiative.

Death-row inmate Frank Williams Jr. appealed to the state Parole Board to stop his September 9th execution because of his mental disabilities. Lawyers state he was held back in school three times before dropping out of high school as a sophomore.

Former State Rep., and current legislative candidate from North Little Rock, today faces the prospect of being barred from returning to the House seat he gave up to settle a felony sexual assault charge, less than a month after the Democratic Party voted to block his nomination to the same post.

The Arkansas Geological Survey wants $1.25 million from legislators to match the federal money awarded to study the feasibility of lignite mining in Arkansas. The survey estimates that there are 9 billion tons of lignite, a low-grade coal, in south Arkansas.

Members of a legislative task force said Monday they will urge the Legislature to provide defibrillators to every public school in the state.

State revenue is up 3.9% over forecast for the first month of the fiscal year.

Total number of candidates for the Central Arkansas Water Commission is 17 and there will be a public hearing Thursday afternoon.

That speech by Lowell McAdams, CEO of Vorizon, at noon Thursday has been moved to the Statehouse Convention Center. He is expected to discuss the takeover of Alltel.

Starting Nov. 1, anyone selling scrap metal in Little Rock will be required to show IDs and be fingerprinted regardless of the amount they trade in for cash.

The Little Rock Zoo’s Asian Elephant exhibit is about to double in size making way for the eventual addition of a third elephant.

Former Razorback and current Philadelphia Eagle Shawn Andrews has been conspicuously absent from the team’s training camp this summer. He tells the Philadelphia Inquirer he’s battling depression. The team is fining Andrews $15,000 a day.

The University of Arkansas will raise the price of a men’s basketball ticket to $25 beginning with the 2008-09 season.

CNNMoney.com reports Russellville is the 10th most affordable place to live in 2008 as part of their annual “best places” list.

North Little Rock’s Old Mill will celebrate its 75th anniversary Thursday evening at 7:30.

Danville-based Petit Jean Poultry plans to close a processing plant in Buffalo, Mo. 465 jobs will be eliminated in Buffalo, which has a population of about 3,000.

Greenwood City Council is considering a 21-page comprehensive animal control ordinance that would require owners to prevent all pets including cats, from roaming free.

That new splash pad and skating area proposed for a Forrest City park are so sensitive and controversial Mayor Gordon McCoy has sent a memo to city council members with questions to meet with him privately before the next meeting because he doesn’t want to discuss it in public.
