The Jail Review Committee reports that nobody should sue anybody over reimbursements for keeping state prisoners, the jail should not shift medical costs to UAMS. The city and county should seek more from the state for housing its prisoners. Currently the jail loses $30 per prisoner per day
A North Little Rock middle school student was hit by a car while walking home from school. Haley Eich, a student at Ridgeroad Middle School was in serious condition Monday night at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The state Health Department says two people died in the heat wave that hovered over Arkansas in late July and early August.
Former President Clinton and Governor Mike Beebe eulogized the late Democratic party chair Bill Gwatney, Clinton urging people to make a list of things for which they are grateful to Gwatney.
Arkansas wide receiver Marques Wade pleads guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving while intoxicated and careless driving. The sophomore is one of seven Arkansas players to get into trouble with the law since March, including six who have been arrested.
Dogtown Wire reports North Little Rock Mayor Pat Hays gets around. From January 2007 through May 2008 his total travel expenses reimbursed to Mayor Hays was $23,573.73. This represents travel to approximately 26 cities in the US.
Little Rock based Windstream may buy out Frontier Communications before year’s end.
Equity Media reports a net loss of about $22.8 million for the six months ended June 30. The Little Rock based holding company says it will need substantial funds over the next year to operate.
A Fort Smith couple was convicted of misdemeanor negligent homicide Monday in the death of their 22-month-old daughter who was left in a hot car for three hours. The sentence was six months in prison and a $1,000 fine.
Maudie Cecilia Hopkins of Lexa, one of the last known Confederate widows, died at the Helena Medical Center. She was 93. She married Confederate veteran William Cantrell in 1934 when she was 19 and he was 86.
