The Searcy Daily Citizen published an amazing letter to the editor concerning the issue of abortion. Here is a completely new outlook. I urge you to read the letter on the Citizen web site and the absolutely astounding responses on the newspaper web site.
Here is a segment of the letter.
As it would happen, there were eight Republicans on the Court (89 percent) when the most important upholding of Roe came down in Planned Parenthood vs Casey (1992). How did the sole Democrat vote? Justice Byron White, appointed by President Kennedy, opposed abortion rights in both Roe and Casey.
Why did the Republicans mandate the right to abortion? The worldly economic conservatives who control the party hate taxes. If the Court overturns Roe to permit the state to require millions of babies to be born – not because their infanticidal parents want them, but as a matter of public policy – then government at all levels will have to pay for their care. Republicans reach for nausea medicine at the very thought!
Indeed, I have never met a Republican who wanted to mushroom the welfare state for any reason – not even to give unwanted babies milk to drink. When faced with the possibility of saving the unborn, Republicans declared moral bankruptcy in order to economize. Many Democrats accept or tolerate Roe, but not for the purpose of avoiding public responsibility for unwanted children. This is a signal moral distinction between the parties.
There’s more and even blistering response. A must read.
