This one has happened mostly under the radar since it was originally announced earlier in the year. There will certainly be changes at Little Rock National Airport, but things are moving along cautiously. Today’s Memphis Commercial Appeal reports it could take years to complete this enormous consolidation.
Experts agreed Memphis should see immediate benefits from access to Delta’s larger network, but they said it’s too early to gauge the impact on hub status.
“There’s a real issue of what happens to Memphis, what happens to Cincinnati,” Field said. “I know Delta and Richard Anderson made a lot of promises. You have to ask do you need those two hubs when you have the powerhouse of Detroit nearby.”
Memphis leaders hope for more international nonstops to supplement Amsterdam.
Mark Kiefer, consultant with CRA International in Boston, said, “To the extent certain hubs (like Detroit) serve international, those hubs might grow. If it involves starting new international service, you might even see new flights from hubs that didn’t have international service before.”
For the moment, Delta is focused on fundamentals.
Nonetheless, the airline industry model is for gaining efficiencies. That is also probably bad news for Little Rock in the long run. The bright side is that a decidedly inferior airline (Northwest) is being taken over by a much more professional operation.
Obviously, the country ought to be putting more emphasis on sensible passenger rail to provide a viable alternative for travel between many well located pairs of cities.

FOX TV owner, Rupert Murcoch, whines over potential Obama win
Billionaire crybaby Rupert Murcoch, interviewed from Australia, complains that an Obama victory might cost him an extra dime. The owner of the “fair and balanced” FOX (News?Maybe “distortion” or “propaganda”) Network, frets over the woes of the wealthy is a “socialist” should become president. In the same exchange, Don’t you think the right wing media darlings share some of the blame for the economic disaster? I sure do.
Murdoch fondly approves of the $700 billion in corporate welfare payments for the Wall Street crooks passed by a timid congress and signed by the now invisible President. Here is a snip from the Wall Street Journal.
That’s right. We must, at all costs, take care of RUPERT MURDOCH. If it were not so real and so pathetic, it would be laughable.
Yes, Rupert, let them eat cake.
