Incident on I-430 Arkansas River Bridge

7:10 OM. No other details, BUT a man involved in an accident on the bridge may now be hanging from it. Very confused situation.

This may be part of an accident on I-430 and Rodney Parham. (Yeah, I know.)

Police are also looking for a heavy-set, white male wearing a sweatshirt. He is supposedly walking down Rodney Parham and may have some involvement in the incident.

7:20 State Police have made contact with the subject who walked away from the incident.

WRAPUP. It looks like these were two different incidents. When something happens on the river bridge, you naturally pay attention.

Bass Pro closer to Pyramid move in Memphis

This is noteworthy to those who have desired to dole out some corporate welfare in North Little Rock. Although that project seems to have hit a stumbling block, we know the welfare queens never sleep. Here is today’s latest from the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Shelby County Commissioners approved a development agreement with Bass Pro Shops today, reversing an earlier vote and giving the outdoor retail giant another 12 months to draft plans for its megastore.

In an 9-3 vote, commissioners endorsed the deal and authorized county Mayor A C Wharton to sign the contract for a 12-month development period. During the year, Bass Pro must meet quarterly milestones to finish planning and gather all necessary permits and approvals. Bass Pro will make monthly payments of $35,000 and pay a $500,000 penalty if they drop out of the deal.

The commission was the only party left to vote on the deal – Bass Pro signed the deal in August and the City Council approved it in October.

Coal fired power plants suffer setback

Glen Hooks of the Sierra Club sends this release.

STATEMENT OF GLEN HOOKS (SIERRA CLUB) ON BONANZA DECISION BY EPA ENVIRONMENTAL APPEALS BOARD

The EPA board’s decision is a significant and important victory for those who value clean air.  The decision effectively halts construction on all new coal-fired power plants in the United States, including the dirty Turk plant proposed for Hempstead County, Arkansas.   The board agreed with an argument Sierra Club has pushed for the last two years:  that carbon dioxide should be regulated as an air pollutant, and that the EPA is required to regulate it.

The Turk plant is estimated to emit between five and six million metric tons of CO2 every year, dramatically increasing our state’s contribution to global warming.  Despite ADEQ’s recent issuance of an air permit for the Turk plant, the EPA board’s decision effectively halts all construction until the incoming Obama EPA constructs rules for regulating and limiting carbon dioxide emissions.

The EPA board’s decision echoes the recent vote of our state’s Global Warming Commission, which recommended a halt to coal-fired power plants in Arkansas until CO2 pollution can be captured.

The trend is clear.  Environmentalists, the courts, state commissions, and now the EPA board stand united in the view that C02 pollution must be regulated.  The days of dirty coal’s free ride are over.”
