Charles, thanks for your note and I take no disrespect at all. Yes, there were many people, and probably some were older, that went to jail over the weekend. Most of that was due to some sort of threatening conduct that needed immediate attention. The federal authorities KNEW that they were going to arrest Shoffner and, instead of waiting for a weekday, they subjected her to two days of jail time. It may be that federal prosecutors know that, in view of her advanced years, prison time might be unlikely, they wanted on chance to put the fear of God in her. The problem with this authoritarian misuse of power is that people accused of crimes are PRESUMED INNOCENT. Therefore, federal authorities deliberately put an INNOCENT individual in jail for two days without due process. This still suggests to me that they must have a mighty weak case. Yes, it looks strong now, but that is because it has not been cross-examined. I guess they are also saying that, if you disagree with government, we might slap you behind bars for a few days. This is not the American that men and women gave up perfectly good lives.

I mean no disrespect but, compassion? Where is the compassion for the others that are arrested over the weekend? There is a double standard when dealing with criminals. On the one hand, those who are not influential, in a position of power, get better treatment than those who are not. If you want compassion for one group, have compassion for the other.

I guess the bankers and corporate execs are just frightened to death of the rising stock market (double that of the Bush administration's eco disaster) and dwindling unemployment numbers as socialism just keeps rollling along in America. OH, and give my regards to the Pharisees--they were the origins of Christianity!

Patrick, thanks. I am very sure that, if I were a public official, I would receive a "zero" NRA score - even though I agree with most of their positions. Back in the day, when I attended Catholic schools, we did not need school resource officers. We had the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. I am making light here. You had to be there for it to be funny. Some of the Brothers would be quite dangerous if you gave them guns.

The resource officers at North Little Rock High school do an incredible job. I would welcome them at the elementary level. They do more than protect. They build relationships with the kids. Those relationships can make a profound difference in a kids opinion of the law including those from the "hood". I have kids in elementary, Jr. high and high school. If we are trying so hard "to save one life" surely the money spent would certainly be worth it? In the scenario you write about, these people usually start shooting quickly. Dialogue is kinda hard to have with all that noise. However, officers are trained to end conflict without bloodshed through dialog if at all possible. The far left's argument is as emotionally charged as anyone else. It is an emotional subject. It should be. It should also follow logic. Both sides are guilty of forgetting that. Is the NRA being anymore pushy than anti gun groups? No. Unfortunately politics in this country has gotten uglier by the day. I could point to any of the leaders of both sides and call out bullying, smugness, power abuses....
Thank you for saying there are things about the NRA you do agree with. That is why I have a lot of respect for you.
