Arkansas members of Congress say a $55 million grant has been awarded to a project to provide safe water for 22,000 residents of north-central Arkansas.

The piers that hold up the Interstate 30 bridge over the Arkansas River near downtown Little Rock are narrow and create a hazard to barges flowing up and down the river, according to what the Waterways Commission told lawmakers. It’s been passed on the Highway Department.

Gov. Mike Beebe said he was hopeful after meeting with Dassault Falcon officials in France on Tuesday that the aircraft manufacturer would look at ways to save money other than laying off more workers.

More than a month after the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System voided a superintendent’s retirement after finding he failed to fully “terminate” employment for 30 days, the system’s board has approved a policy clarifying what terminating employment means.

Curtis Vance, accused of killing television anchor Anne Presley, will be back in court today as a hearing over what evidence will be admitted at his capitol murder trial enters its second day. Vance’s lawyers are seeking to suppress much of the evidence and the defendant’s statements.

A St. Francis County jury acquitted Harry Stephen Amos of capital murder in the death of then-Marianna Fire Chief Charles Boone, whom Amos found in bed with his estranged wife the morning of Dec. 30, 2007.

A federal judge has delayed a sentencing hearing for  Tony Alamo, who was convicted on charges of taking young girls across state lines for sex.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals rules that jailers are immune from a lawsuit filed in connection with Bobby Joe Rylee’s death in the Russellville jail; however, officers involved in the arrest will be subject to litigation on the allegations of unnecessary force.

Crime in Pine Bluff dropped more than 10 percent during the third quarter of 2009 as compared to 2008, according to figures compiled by the police department and released Monday.

The parents of a 27-yearold North Carolina truck driver who died in late 2005 after a fiery explosion on Interstate 40 near Brinkley have been awarded nearly $1 million by a federal jury.
