Tuesday Arkansas early morning update

Sen. Blanche Lincoln observes that Republicans have blocked her effort to have all health legislation amendments posted on-line before they can be offered and put to a vote.

KING 5 News has learned that the crime that sent Maurice Clemmons to prison in Arkansas, supposedly for life, was also committed against a police officer. The victim of that crime was an Arkansas state trooper, Keith Eremea, whose home was burglarized in 1989 and his gun and other property were stolen.

The chairman of the Washington State House Public Safety Committee will hold a public hearing and try to find out why the suspect in the slaying of four Pierce County police officers was not in custody, despite a violent record and outstanding criminal charges, including the alleged sexual assault of a child. Pierce County authorities have criticized Arkansas correction officials over a supposedly dropped arrest warrant, but Arkansas officials respond they issued a warrant in October.

Chelsea Clinton is engaged to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky. Mezvinsky is the son of former Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, D-Iowa, and former Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinksy, D-Penn.

University of Central Arkansas football coach Clint Conque says he has not spoken to the FBI and does not consider himself part of the bureau’s investigation at UCA. Apparently, the investigation concerns converting private funds to compensate Conque for his television show.

A 35-year-old state prison inmate is dead from injuries sustained on his job at the farm of the Cummins Unit in Lincoln County.

The Hot Springs Board of Directors will consider an ordinance that, if adopted, would ban ownership of certain dog breeds within the city limits.

Daniel Rahn. the chancellor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is considering budget cuts that could include layoffs. UAMS is the state’s largest employer. A financial report shows UAMS lost $43.1 million last fiscal year. About one-third of that is from investments losses.

A Florida company acquiring Sparks Regional Medical Center at Fort Smith says the takeover will be effective today.

The Ozark police officer who used a stun gun on an unruly 10-year-old girl has been fired for violating department policy for failing to use the camera attached to it. The officer had been warned about the camera several times previously.

Pulaski County authorities say a jail inmate who escaped in a county van has been recaptured at Little Rock.

Preparing for the Australian Open, Arkansas native John Daly is said to have lost 115 pounds and checks in at 185.
