On 07-06-10, at approximately 0214 hours, officers responded to 1601 North Shackleford, Apartment #195, after receiving a 911 call with the caller stating that he had escaped from the apartment during a robbery and his two friends were still at the apartment taped up.  Officers responded to the apartment and located two males in a bedroom with tape on their hands and feet.  Detectives and CSSU were contacted and responded to the scene.

The victim advised that while on the parking lot waiting on his friend to put some items in his apartment he was approached by a black male.  The victim advised that the subject then showed him a gun and told him to stay calm and he would not hurt him.  The victim advised that the subject then got into the back seat of the vehicle and when the other subject returned to the vehicle he was advised that the subject in the back seat had a gun.  The subject then displayed the gun and forced both subjects out of the vehicle and into the apartment, at which time they were told to wake up his roommate.  The suspect took all three subjects’ cell phones then pulled out a flattened roll of tape from his pocket and taped all three subjects’ hands and feet before ordering them into a bathroom.  The suspect then searched the residence asking if they had any laptops, credit cards or cash.  One of the victims advised that he could call an Uncle and get the money.  The suspect allowed him to arrange to have the money brought over to the apartment.  When the subject called and advised that he was in front of the apartment, the suspect removed the tape from one of the victims’ hands and feet and advised him to get the money and not to try anything funny.  The suspect ordered the other two victims to stay in the bedroom.  The suspect followed the other victim outside where he waited and watched from the breezeway for the victim to get the money.  While at the car, the victim jumped into the driver’s window and the vehicle sped off the parking lot.  The suspect fled and Police were then called.

Fingerprint evidence collected at the scene was positively identified the suspect as being Sylvester Hatley.  Warrants were obtained for Hatley on 07-12-10.

On 07-10-10, at approximately 0530 hours, officers responded to 5620 South University, Room #23, in reference to a robbery of an individual.  Upon arrival they made contact with David Tipton and Gaylon Anderson.  Mr. Tipton advised that he had left the motel room to take items to his truck for work and upon walking back to his room he was confronted by two male subjects who forced him into the room at gunpoint.  Both suspects were armed with handguns.  Mr. Tipton advised that upon entering the room, the suspects demanded his and his roommate’s money.  The suspects took Mr. Anderson’s wallet, removed the money, and took his cell phone before taping his hands.  This suspect advised Mr. Anderson to stay in the room and advised him that the other suspect would be just outside the door if he tried to leave.  The taller suspect forced Mr. Tipton outside to his truck at gunpoint where they then drove to several ATMs and withdrew money.  The suspect advised Mr. Tipton to get out of the truck and the suspect fled the area in Mr. Tipton’s vehicle.

Mr. Anderson advised that after the subject left the motel room he was able to get out of the tape and go to the office where he had the manager call police.  On 07-12-10 Sylvester Hatley was identified as one of the two suspects who robbed Mr. Tipton and Mr. Anderson on 07-10-10. Warrants were obtained for Hatley on 07-12-10.

On 07-27-10, at approximately 0208 hours, Officers responded to a disturbance with a weapon call at 3401 Mabelvale Pike, Apartment #3, and made contact with a male who identified himself as Anthony Johnson.  A warrant check on this subject revealed an active misdemeanor warrant and this subject was taken into custody without incident.  Johnson was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in reference to his warrant.  A fingerprint check revealed that Johnson was actually Sylvester Hatley.  Hatley was transported to the Downtown Detective Division in reference to numerous active felony warrants. Hatley was served with warrants for three counts of Aggravated Robbery, one count of Aggravated Residential Burglary, three counts of Kidnapping, and three counts of Theft of Property in reference to Incident #2010-72972.  Hatley was also charged with two counts of Aggravated Robbery, two counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Theft of Property and one count of Aggravated Residential Burglary in reference to Incident #2010-74825, and one count of Obstructing Governmental Operation and a FTA out of Little Rock Traffic Court.  Hatley was then transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.
