Inauguration day “live” thread

You must see the magnificent sunrise over the United States Capitol. Let us hope it is a good omen. Your comments. Post ’em and I will check in from time to time. 19 degrees in Washington. I’m glad to be here!

6:24 Reminds me of Jan. 20 1061. JFK took the oath on such a bitterly cold day.I was a student at Little Flower Catholic School on Government Street in Mobile in fifth grade. As Roman Catholics, we were sure this was part of bringing in the Kingdom of God with these pius devoted Catholic people in the White House. We were such idiots.

Nonetheless, JFK gave a wonderful speech. Obama needs to raise people’s spirits and revive love of country today. The general cliamte of the country is all against patriotism, of course. Talk rado and the media talking heads do not allow for it.

6:30 Watching C-Span. Is that terrible hum a Comcast thing? They ahve a Democrat, Republican and independent lines. Yep. that is ow we decide things. Two sides to every argumetn and everybody else. Very simplistic.

6:36 MSNBC on national service day.. a bunch of people did a bunch of things… welcome to America the Inarticulate.

6:40 I hope they were top hats. I guess that is old school. JFK wore a top hat.

6:49 Newt Gingrich is on FOX. Very balanced. Gives Obama high marks for attention to military.

6:57: CNN I am sure Bow-wow is a fine guy. “Mr. President, meet Mr. Wow..” POh yeah, hi bow. How goes it my man?”

7:01 St. John’s Episcopal Church will be the site of a private service for Mr. Obama and family. This is bound to displease my end of Anglicanism. The condition of the Episcopal Church USA is a grat shame. Anglican worhisp and practice is a wonderful umbrella under which pius and orthodox Christians may worship.

National Cathedral, an Episcopal stronghold, is pitching for the Obama family to come regularly. That would be (could be) interpreted as a political statement. I am not sure Obama is possessed of any real religious consciousness. That means he can change. One can be orthodox and still tolerate people with different opinions.

7:31 leaving Blair House. Wonder what the fuel efficiency rating is on that new presidential limo? OK. I just had to be the first. running 7 mintues late so far.

If only my mother had lived to see this day. (Not!)

7:38 C-Span says Obama is 13 minutes late. (Clinton Standard Time)

7:44 No. Obama. My anxiety is offically “up.”

7:48 … finally.. sigh of relief….

He is now in the cluttches of the Episcopal Church USA.. good Lord deliver us!

8:10 National Guard on standby. Gotta keep the people under control…

(:02 they are at the White House. What a moment it was. This is a good day to be gracious. I just hate braggarts because they look so foolish when they get their butts kicked – as always happens. With malice toward none.

9:10 H=Muhammad Ali is still alive. What a life.

9:20 just flipped over to CBS. Somebody let me know if they let Cronkite out of his room.

9:47 so Teddy Kennedy is still alive too. Seriously, I am glad to see him well. And what’s this cock and bull soty about Dick Cheney putting out his back moving boxes. One would think a billionaire oppressor of the people would have an army of lackeys.

9:50 President Bush has left the White House. I well recall the horrible knot in my stomach watching the Cliintons depart knowing how bad things would get. Of course, I had no real ide

Of course, Bush stole the election, so it was an omenna.

10:06 Here’s some good news. Bush is taking Carl Rove back to?Waco. Good riddance.

10:14 The official announcer certainly has an unpleasantly deep voice.

George H. W. Bush looks a little lost. Glad to see him still going. And there are the Carters. Jimmy ages nicely. It’s nice to see somebody age nicely.

Ah, my old friends the Clintons. What more can I say.

It is good to see the former presidents doing so well.

Protocol people are getting them properly lined up. Bush 41 seems old. Nice man.

Here are the trumpet heralds. You would think they were retired kings. and there is the man with the anoying baritone voice.

So some employee of the House escourts Biden’s children?

Did you see Chelsea? That young woman will do something big.

BTW..the Clintons got huge applause.

Obama has very cool children…

Wonder what Caroline Kennedy thinks when she goes inside the White House? Just thought of that this morning.

Michelle Obama looks a bit tenative. And what kind of Dr. is Jill Biden?

Sorry…can’t help being Pat

Eick Cheney reminds me of Mr. Potter in It’s a Wonderful Life – right down to the wheelchair..

ruffles and flurishes….Mr. Good Voice just stumbled….good for him…

10:48 what a moment…Obama looks very serious.. guess I would too… Peloli could have left off the part about “change”… partisan..

Rick Warren… passion… yes… It all belongs to God and history is his story… hear O Israel…from Deuteronomy… nice touch… hinge point of history… Rick Warren mentions first African-American.. guess somegbody had to say it… would ahve bee better to let the moment speak for itself.

He jsutr preached Dr. King into heaven….I am sure Martin is there, but mere humans have no right so presume….finally… a call for foreness….for failing to be thankful… and decent to others….new birth of clarity….responsability… humility… civility….good thoughts….one day all will stand accountable before you….prayed in the name of Jesus….Our Father….very cool….

Before my liberal friends take off on Warren… the Frist Amendment also protects free exercise….it was a great prayer

Aretha….oh my …oh m …oh my…. ohy….oh my

Doesn’t Stevens look great? He is ANCIENT….very cool guy

Pearlman? Bring on Aretha…OK.. I jsut gotta’ be Pat… bet Bush is about ready to go by now….very beautiful moment… seriously….wonderful solemn moment….

Rick Warren is gonna’ catch hell…. the very reason there should not be mandatory prayers in public schools is that they tend to be “ecumenical” … real prayer… like Warren invoked… is SPECIFIC….nobodyh had to agree with Rick Waren… nobody had to feel excluded….it was completely voluntary….htat kind of prayer is not permissible at school functions, which are mandatory….big difference….hope that explains it… somehow I doubt it.

Chief Justice John Roberts….well…you do the best you can with what you got

the oath….

Stevens screwed it up… typical Bushie…

Perhaps if Roberts had nto been in such a hurry to say “Hussein” … he is the only one who used the middle name osme consider offensive….serves him right

he always seem humble…good quality….always thougtful…

thanks Bush….as he should….

gathering cloudes and raging storms….we.. the people…have remained faithful…collective failure to make hard choices… indicators of crisis…but he gets to the real point…nagging fear….

end to false dogmas…. good luck….

beautiful historic landscape…..America is bigger than the sum of our individual ambitions….this is the journey

restore science….health care…harness sun and wind….transform schools….no mention of high speed rail…

just being Pat …

ground has shifted beneath them…old arguments no longer apply…

programs will end.,,. public accountability …

without a watchful eye the market can spin out of control…..AMEN!

RULE OF LAW AND THE RIGHTS OF MAN….AMEN AND AMEN

keepers of the olegacy…..specific mention of Iraq and Afranastan

we will not apologize for our way of life….confronts terrorists…we will defeat yo

diversity….old hatreds will pass away…

remembers the military…..embody the spirit of service … example of service …decides our fate….he is so right… well said…
honesty and ahrd work…many virtues old and true…new era of responsibility…giving our all to a difficult task…

God calls on us for a difficult task….

Washington quote…..wow…..winter of out hardship

when we were tested.. we did not turn back….

good speech….best since JFK….

not immortal prose… but very very good

A POEM….

OK….. I am too stupid to get it… probably a lot better when you read it on paper …

BENEDICTION….

oh my…. what a beautiful verse….sew the wind.. reap the whirlwind…eloquent….most eloquent words of the day…even humor…moving….masterful healing..

Love them Sea Chanters…..beautiful program… I will be back.. for now, your turn….
